Where To Spray Your Perfume (Hint: It’s Not Where You Think)
September 26, 2017 at 11:23 pm 0
Where do you spray your perfume everyday? I would bet money that most of you would answer, my neck, chest and behind the ears. Unfortunately most of you beauties will end up in a dermatologist office due to this practice alone! Why you ask? Well most perfumes contain alcohol, and when applied to sun exposed skin causes a photosensitivity to occur in direct sunlight. Thus increasing your chances of sunburn, which can lead to a list of problems. Such as hyper-pigmentation,  wrinkles,  Poikiloderma (google it, it is not pretty) and even skin cancer. I take great care to avoid sun exposed areas when applying my perfume and so should you! I like to apply it under my clothes and I also do a spritz in the ends of my hair. Be careful not to spray too much in your hair, as the alcohol in the fragrance can also leave you with dry ends!

At Home with Actress Brittany Ishibashi
October 23, 2014 at 1:07 pm 0
Brittany Ishibashi is a Chic Mama that is balancing new motherhood with life as a working actress. She recently appeared as Anne Ogami in the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated POLITICAL ANIMALS on the USA network. She also starred as Dr. Kelly Hamata on the CW network's Emily Owens, M.D. She'll next appear in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie.  Brittany currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband and is proud mama to Kai, a happy 4 month old. See her must have products for mom and baby below! brittbaby  brittbaby2     I've always been a "healthy-minded" individual. I love vegetables. I eat organic. I do yoga. But when I found out that I was pregnant, a whole new dynamic of "healthy-mindedness" kicked in. Suddenly, I was hyper aware of everything that I was putting into and on to my body and the immediate effect it may have on my baby. I held a microscope up to every ingredient (ahem, figuratively, I'm not that neurotic), and started researching the companies behind the products. I found that even the more "natural" products that I was using still had worrisome ingredients, so I dumped the baddies and scoured the shelves for the good stuff. The problem I ran into was that a lot of these healthier choices were just not… effective: Face wash that left mascara rings under my eyes (and on my towels). Deodorant that, um, didn't de-odorize. The other issue I was having was that a lot of these more natural products just didn't feel luxurious. I mean, I want the beauty goods to work, but as a Chic Mama, I also want to feel glamorous while using them.   Here are my Top 5 products for Mom and Baby that I found were effective and luxurious.   MAMA:   1) Mama Mio Tummy Rub Oil - I started rubbed this oil on my torso morning and night as soon as I found out that I was pregnant. This company has a “no nasties” policy - “free from parabens, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance and colourants, xenoestrogens, PEGs, glycols and phthlates.” It’s full of organic oils and rich in omegas. My skin soaked it in immediately and it never left an oily residue that transferred to my clothes.  I credit this, along with yoga, as the reason I got through the 40 weeks with nary a stretch mark! Plus, it smells good! MamaMio  2) Lavanila “The Healthy Deodorant” - So, until I get around to making my own deodorant, I am loving this one by Lavanila. The underarm is a delicate area where nasties are easily absorbed, and this one has no aluminum, no parabens, no sulfates, no phthalates...and it works. ‘Nuff said. Lavanila   3)  One Love Organics Brand New Day - A satisfying scrub that is also super gentle! You just add a little water to this yummy blend of sweet pea flour and pineapple enzymes and voila! Brand new face! I love that it also foams a little and smells delicious (yay, pineapple!). I love all of the products from One Love Organics, but this exfoliant is really a stand out. You can also add yogurt or honey to it and it becomes a mask! OneLoveOrganics     4) Josie Maran Argan Moisturizer and SPF - SPF is always a must for me, but I became even more obsessed with it after learning about the sensitivity of pregnant mama skin and the possibility of my skin cells getting crazy with my hormones and manifesting as a dark brown and splotchy “mask of pregnancy” -- what?? I also knew that I should stay away from chemical sunscreens (which can enter the bloodstream and mess with estrogen levels), and look for physical or mineral sunblocks (which are much safer). This SPF is zinc oxide and titanium dioxide based, and while it does go on a little thick with a white cast (typical of mineral sunscreens), it absorbs quickly. I like the texture and the fact that in addition to argan oil, it’s loaded with other goodies like aloe and green tea. unnamed-3   5) NUDE Advanced Renewal Moisturizer - I looked long and hard for an “anti-aging” product that didn’t have any retinols in it, and I am so happy that I was finally introduced to this line. It’s such a treat to use this every night. This super delicious moisturizer is loaded with omegas (6 and 9!), antioxidants, and probiotics, and free of all the uglies (NO parabens, sulphates, PEGs, TEA, DEA, proylene glycol, phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrance and color, mineral oil and silicone). My skin is smoother and more radiant after using this super luxe cream -- try it and you will be glowing with a hydrated and happy face. unnamed-5   BABY: Since Kai is still a little guy, I haven’t used many products on him. Here are my faves so far...   1) Angel Baby Bottom Balm - This is a miracle product. I’ve been using this from the beginning with my little one, and he has never had a diaper rash or any irritation. It’s antibacterial and antifungal, so I also use it on any scrapes he gets from his little fingernails. It cleared his cradle cap too! If you are going to get one product for your baby, this is it! AngelBabyBottomBalm   2) Angel Baby Oil - I adore the Earth Mama Angel Baby company. The Chic Mama behind this line is a nurse and herbalist as well, and she is rigorous with the research and testing of her products. All products are natural, organic and “worry free”. I love this oil for Kai’s bedtime massage. (He loves it too!) It’s simply high quality grapeseed and jojoba oils with calendula. A yummy blend with very little fragrance that feels amazing. AngelBabyOil   3) Honest Company Shampoo and Body Wash - I must say, I’m a big fan of The Honest Company. We use a lot of their products for ourselves as well as for Kai, but I especially love this body wash for his bathtime. Like all Honest Company products, this wash is free of “SLS, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, fragrances, dyes, sodium chloride, formaldehyde, MEA, DEA, TEA & most common allergens.” (Isn’t it scary that those ingredients can live in so many of the products on the market...?) What this wash is full of, however, are great things like coconut oil, jojoba, quinoa and aloe. It’s gentle for baby and smells divine. unnamed-6   4)  Baby D’s Vitamin D Drops - It’s recommended that breastfed babies have a vitamin d supplement, since they are probably not getting enough from breastmilk. I like that this brand has only two ingredients: Vitamin D3 and Olive Oil. Kai doesn’t notice or mind the olive oil taste at all! You can put a drop on your nipple while breastfeeding or put it on your finger. Super easy! When researching the baby vitamin d drops on the market, a lot of people cautioned about the ease of “overdosing” due to inefficient droppers or leaky tops. Baby D’s dispenses slowly so you’re sure to only be getting the recommended 400 IU of Vitamin D3 per drop. unnamed-2   5) Elizabeth Essentials ImmuShield - Okay, this is a crossover product for Mama and Baby (and the rest of the family). After the whole fam stayed vibrantly healthy after multiple plane trips, changes in weather, and being around a host of sick people-- this oil has earned a permanent place on my shelf! Elizabeth makes incredible essential oil blends. This one is a mix of tea tree, oregano, rosemary, frankincense, clove bud, ravensara, cinnamon bark, thyme and apricot kernel oils. For Kai’s first plane trip, I rubbed one drop between my fingers before applying to each of his feet. For adult use, you can apply 1-3 drops to the soles of your feet and/or under your arms. I think it smells especially yummy for fall (ahem, cold and flu season). elizabeth  How about you? What are some of your healthy “must haves” for you and your baby?

Product Crush Alert-The Beauty Counter
September 19, 2014 at 2:39 pm 0
Like I have said before I have a thing for beauty products. We recently moved and there were way too many creams, lotions, toners, serums... you name it I had it. I...just...can't...help...myself! The chic mamas recently found a new line that we are crushin' on, and it made us rethink all those other products I mentioned above. The Beauty Counter is a company started by the chic mama, Ms. Renfrew. She started this line after noticing that companies were not mandated to tell consumers what ingredients were in beauty products, even when the ingredients contained carcinogens and other harmful additives. I read that most women apply as many as 10 beauty products before leaving for work in the morning, and each individual product can have a high amount of ingredients which really adds up. We tend to easily forget that our skin is our biggest organ and what goes on it, goes in! The Beauty Counter's mission states that women should never have to compromise their health for beauty. All products are safe, and non-toxic (they have a never list with all ingredients known to be harmful, found here http://www.beautycounter.com/the-never-list). In addition to the skin care line, they have make up, body products and a kids line! See my favorites here:   Nourishing Cleansing Balm- cleansing balm To be used nightly, massage balm into skin in circular motion to help improve circulation. Wipe clean with a warm cloth and rinse with cold water. This was awesome to remove makeup and clean!Photo via beautycounter.com Lustro Face Oil #2- faceoil This oil is light weight, yet I found it easily moisturized my skin for hours with only one or two drops. Its packed with antioxidants and is ideal for dry, tired skin (hello I'm a mom...sign me up) photo via beautycounter.com   Glow Sugar Scrub- bodyscrub Buff away dead skin cells with this brown sugar scrub, it smells incredible and leaves your skin feeling so soft. I liked to use this scrub to exfoliate prior to shaving, worked like a charm to get rid of any dead skin. Photo via bueatycounter.com   Kidscounter Squeaky Clean Body Wash- kidssqueaky This body wash left Willow's skin feeling clean, and moisturized as it's ingredients contain essential oils and fruit extracts.
